As someone who rarely posted on the altpnp, but read most of it, I can say the characterization of the place given here is not quite correct.

Why don't you go beat a poor dog or something and then ask people to feel for you.

C'mon people. We don't really need to rehash alt PnP stuff here. Few people outside of its participants care about it. And Squishy has been kind enough to provide another option for those that do. Please leave SP out of it...

I always thought so far that once you've registered with a user name, you can't change it anymore. I see now that it is possible! Quite frankly, I would be quite happy if I could change my user name now from "MauriceRavel" to "EricChu", which would hold my real name (my ukranian surname Chumachenco might make it a bit too long for a user name).
