USFS Wilderness Permit disruption in CA

by Kahuna » Thu Apr 04, 2013 1:43 pm

Caught wind yesterday morning from the Inyo USFS Permit Office, that some kind of major glitch in the Wilderness permit issuance system on the Eastside, is causing disruptions/malfunctions in the acquisition/distribution process.

This includes the Whitney Zone Daily Permits as well as the annual Whitney Lottery program permits.

Will try and find out more this morning to ascertain the extent of the problem and what the affect on current annual 2013 WZ lottery permit holders is/may be.

Just got off the phone with the local Permit Admin folks.

Issue is not from the USFS Permit side perse.

Rather, many applicants have entered numerous "lottery" applications in an attempt to insure their securing a permit. In doing so, those individuals, by default of the system, are being notified to resubmit their application for doing so. The system has been overwhelmed and is now kicking back requests due to these actions by those folks.

So....

Interesting. Didn't they also recently ratchet down the number of those lottery permits allotted?

^^^^^^^ I have no idea.

Just putting out the word of what is actually happening to those that may have been having issues in acquiring their Summer permit/s within the Inyo NF.

Do you think this means they'll change their decision on denying my lottery app? lol wishful thinking...

From my understanding, that may have occurred due to the system being overwhelmed by multiple entries from the same people.

Thus, it is they and not the system that may be at fault for your denial.
