What is alpinism?

by ExcitableBoy » Fri Dec 23, 2011 7:02 pm

One of the more notable alpinists offers his definition. Note Steve1215 may not want to read it, it has more words than he cares for: http://raphaelslawinski.blogspot.com/2010/12/faux-alpinism.html

Sounds like Stevie has a big chip on his shoulder or an axe to grind.

I'm taking a break from "alpinism" until tomorrow. Yesterday I got done with some of the scariest and most dangerous alpine climbing I have ever done. What he said fits the description quite perfectly:
"Being miserable. Let's face it, if at no point you didn't wish you were somewhere else, you were probably not alpine climbing." -Raphael Slawinski

I saw him in a 7-Eleven in Hollywood once, late 1980s. Really a weird experience.

Are you talking about Raph? If so, you're completely fucked, as he's one of the humblest climbers I've ever met, and few would ever know he's one of the elite despite having an onerous day-job career and family life.
