skinning up mill d yesterday and saw this maybe foot-long ferrett like creature zipping up and down the hill, solid white.

a)anyone know what this is called?

b)how come i haven't seen these in the summer?

Ermine.
They're usually pretty reclusive. Also they turn brown in the summer.
I usually see them on snow mornings swimming through the snow like dolphins.
