Their Facebook profile says they are rationing fuel now...does not sound good.

"Winter McKinley Feb 2010
(3/9/10 cont.) The weather is cold, -25F (-32 C), with blowing snow. The wind is constant and variable (from all directions) gusts of 30mph (48 km/h) estimated. The conditions are true “Whiteout”. They are rationing their fuel. Food stocks are fine. The menu is simple. Coffee and/or Tea, Salmon Strips, Mashed Potatoes w/Butter, and Salami. There are powdered Citrus like drinks too. Sunrise 7:47AM. Sunset 6:50PM."

Well, it's all in how you look at it. It is a good thing they are doing this. It would be bad if they were NOT rationing their fuel.

Sounds like they're being smart.

Can't be easy to be holed up with another person for 10 days tho'............I don't care how well you get along......

I think they are still in good spirits. Seems to me that they understood this might happen.

At some point the weather has to break - no?

Hi, too bad but glad you are both safe! This is an El Niño year maybe that had something to do with the streak of bad weather. Maybe next year will be a walk in the park compared to this one!

The article is interesting it mentions that the area on the Glacier below 11k ft is just notorious for the stiff wind and that above might have been much calmer (I guess the ridges and faces offer some shelter if you are close to them) since the cold air rushes to the lower elevations.

Hi Christine.

Glad you two are safely down. Great story and it must have been an amazing adventure just to get in that far. I know that section at 10,000 can get very poor weather in May but I can't imagine what it was like in winter. Excuse the sexist remark but it takes some big balls to attempt that climb in winter so congratulations to both of you for trying. I admire your truly adventurous spirit and wish you the best of luck on your next attempt.

By the way, with all that snow did you take shoes bigger than these?

Rasputin was both a mad Russian and a Russian priest.

Glad your home safe. Nothing like a warm bed and hot shower... eh?

Did everything work at those temperatures? anything stop working? anything break? (just curious)
