Yosemite-September

by MattK » Mon Feb 17, 2014 4:59 pm

Hi,
My wife and I are planning on visiting Yosemite sometime between September 5th and September 13th and just trying to get a feel for the weather at that time of year. We’re looking at doing Cathedral Peak's Southeast Buttress and possibly Half Dome's Snake Dike. Coming back after having to take a year off from climbing, my wife is not too keen about climbing in cold weather right now, so we're just wondering what conditions generally are like in early September. I’m guessing lows in the 40s, highs in the 60s, or am I a bit off?
Thanks in advance,
Matt

The first half of September hosts the best weather of the entire year. Least probability of rain, minimal insects and ideal temperatures. Hopefully, you won't encounter an apocalypse of fire and smoke like last September.

High's in the 60's? Maybe but they can reach low to mid 80's as well.

A couple of years ago, it was 100 degrees on Washington Column in Sept. The year before, we froze on approach to Half Dome. Never know what you're gonna get. :)

It's fairly low elevation so the temps in early Sept can still be quite warm on some years. It's not like climbing at 12k.
