Pik Engels and Pik Karl Marx

Pik Engels and Pik Karl Marx

This was the first Soviet climbing of a peak more than 6500 m in 1954, at which, instead of climbing over the ridge, the expedition members climbed through the wall.

Re: Additional infos

Thanks for adding this nice photo of these obscure peaks.
Is the photo shot from the little sub-range just north of the main massif?

Re: Additional infos

Yes, it was done from point 4785m north of the "Shal Mai" valley (see russian maps 1:100'000, sheet 10-43-06)

Re: Additional infos

Ok!
Then my guess was right. When I was there (or close by) I had no view whatsoever of the peaks. Lots of clouds. I had very good views later on though. On the lower part of the Engels glacier (N) and from another point of the northern sub range.

Have we been in contact before?
Are you the same person who contested Heersink's route claim on Pik Kommunizma?

Ok!
Then I know who you are ;-)
If you have the time and inspiration, please comment or add any info on the page. You know the Pamirs very well and can for sure contribute with some useful info.
