Pitch 1 Of Maverick

Pitch 1 Of Maverick

Shirley on the C1 crack section of pitch 1 of Maverick. Crack is thin (finger tips....5.13a if done free) but the rock quality is very good. Approach sidewalk visible below (Feb. 20, 2006).

Bomber C1

Looks like loads of fun! Based on gear placement, looks like you were high steepin'....NICE!

Re: Bomber C1

Hi Dave,

Beyond the chunky opening 20' 5.9 R section (which I did at about C2), the aid on this pitch is straightforward - the high stepping is definitely not required. It's still exciting to see bits of sand being liberated from the rock by your offset nut or microcam as you weight it :)
Thanks for stopping by!

5.13a?

Radek, did it really feel like a .13a to you? Just from looking at it, I wouldn't put it at more than .12d personally...

Re: 5.13a?

heh, heh :)

Yeah, it felt very much like C1 to me but I was wondering HOW it was freed at all.....I mean, you're aiding on micro stuff in this sandstone which is only a small step better quality than the stuff in the Fishers IMHO (bal*sy to say the least). The book puts parts of this crack at 11+ and only a short section at 13a.
Thanks for stopping by Dirk.
