From North Ben Tyler  Sucess!

This seemingly harmless little peak can be a feisty little peak in late winter conditions! Trench busting on the northern ridge, deep snow obliterating trails, screeching wind-driven snow and sastrugi above timberline and slopes a-whoomping... All conspired to make this a tougher day thank suggested on paper!

Post holein'  Sucess!

Hiked up from the North Ben Tyler trailhead. The trail was clear of snow until near the upper switchbacks, at which point we wished we brought our snowshoes. We lost the trail (it was under 4 feet of snow) at the trail junction at the top of the switchbacks, so we just worked our way up towards Little Platosha, post holing the whole way through waist deep or deep snow. Once at Little Platosha, the going got a lot easier for there was little snow from there on out. The original plan was to do Platte and Shawnee, but fighting all that snow wore us out enough that we only did Platte, before turning back to return over ascent route.

Hike n' Bike  Sucess!

Fun experiment for the day on this peak. Locked a bike up at the North Ben Tyler TH, then drove down to the Payne TH outside Bailey. Followed the trail up and did a traverse from Payne BM, No Payne, Shawnee, and Platte Peak, back down the the bike. 5-6 mile ride back to the car. Never saw another person all day.

Long day. Started at sunrise and snowshoed almost the whole climb. There was some recent fresh snow.
