Puitkogel (3345m) from Gahwinden, dwarfing the Rüsselsheimerhütte

Here it's hardly more than a grey smudge, but if you look at the larger version, you can see the Rüsselsheimer Hütte. It's a fine alpine refuge, and it would be my place to sleep for the next two nights. Gahwinden is on a hiking trail, but the Puitkogel requires a bit more. The easiest routes are grade II (UIAA). I didn't climb it, but according to my guidebook, it's 4 hours from the Rüsselsheimer Hütte (2323m) to the summit via the NE ridge. First follow the hiking trail to the Weißmaurachjoch (2923m), the saddle on the far left. From there, scramble along the ridge to the summit, loose rock and grade II (UIAA). 28 June 2012.
