Hiked Quandary on the way home with a stop in Breckenridge. I love that part of Colorado.
CMC Ararat training hike. Clear skies at the beginning and lots of people on the mountain. It was pretty windy above treeline, and it got a little chilly on the way back. Clouds started rolling in when we got to the summit, but we only got some light graupel when we got back to the cars. We did get a little spread out; some hikers were a bit slower than others, and we took a long break at treeline to let the others catch up on the way back down. It took nearly 8 hours total, but I felt better than my last time on The Q back in February. There's still plenty of snow up there, but it is manageable.
Great Climb with a great view!
Michelle and I summited after a storm rolled in at the base of the final summit leg. We had to run for cover by descending about 250 feet. The air was filled with static and made a clicking and buzzing sound emit from our poles, ears, and hair. Quite scary. All climbers hit the dirt quick. It passed, and we started up again, nerves frazzled. Just enough time to ascend and descend before another storm rolled in. Then a monster storm rolled in with wind, hail, and the whole shebang. Post holing much of the time.
Windy spring day. Started at noon was back to the car about 10 minutes after 4.
Went up in June 1974, during my honeymoon.
Again in August 2006, during a family reunion.
First 14er, great day
CMC snowshoe trip. A bunch of guys were preparing for Orizaba and other Mexican peaks. We had some light snow, high winds above treeline, with whiteout conditions at times. My goggles froze up near the summit, so it was nearly impossible to see. We spent about one minute (literally) on the summit, then we headed on down.
In winter no less. With a balmy 18 degrees and gusts around 40 - 60 mph.
November 2 2013
Kessler, Shaylee, Kimberly, and I climbed 14,270' Quandary Peak on Saturday with some 14ers.com members. We got a later start than most of the rest of the group.
Quandary Peak was much more difficult in November than it is in summer! The temperature was 11F degrees on top, but with the strong winds, the windchill was way below zero. It was a good and challenging day.
February 24 2006
Climbed with SP member Blakej, and another person joined us as well. For me: Five hours up and two down, though the other two were faster and waited on the summit for 20 minutes for me.
Unfortunatly some time was lost because I decided to leave my snowshoes in the car because the trail looked packed. Don't make the same mistake.
Climbed multiple times
climbed it in the fall of 2010. Saw a lot of goats and I thought the memorial on top was a pretty nice way to send a friend off.
Got a summit ski of Quandary's standard East Ridge route. Snow was fresh and continuous all the way back to the winter parking.
I enjoyed the attack of this summit -- a direct hike with open views.
My 1st 14er...easy hike. Weather was fantastic even for late October.
First mountain after getting the boot off my cracked ankle. Thanks to my son for getting me out there.
Great hike except for the hundreds of people clogging the trail. Do this peak on a weekday. Saw a lot of Mountain Goats, and also not many clouds in the sky. This provided an excellent view.
