Entire SW Ridge  Sucess!

Pretty fun Class 3+ in a few spots, although 35+mph south winds ruined my groove occasionally. Ran down sandy south slope and back to truck. Good day of cold wind and no people!

SW Ridge  Sucess!

The SW Ridge is enjoyable class-3 pretty much from start to finish.

South Face  Sucess!

Climbed this on a long day after first summiting Tenaya and Columbia Finger. Didn't have a topo map and got a little lost on the way. The class 3 section on this peak is very short, but I would not recommend it to a beginner or someone who is uncomfortable with exposure; there is one small platform you have to walk/crawl across to get to the thin summit that has almost no good holds and is flanked by huge drops to the climber's right and left. Got my heart pounding pretty good.

Beautiful!   Sucess!

Crossing the meadows of upper Dingley Creek was beautiful! After ragged we cut over to the dome to the southeast and down to Delaney creek. Perfect afternoon out in Yosemite.

Winter Ascent  Sucess!

Mid January and Tioga Pass was open, without any snow to be seen. Nice hike up in cool but sunny skies. Streams and lakes were frozen solid everywhere. Took the opportunity to skate on Ellery Lake in the afternoon and Tenaya Lake the next day.

autumnal slendor  Sucess!

Dispatched Ragged pretty quickly, then turned my attention to the ridge traverse over to Peak 11,255. This is a really fine traverse, mostly class 3, with big exposure to climber's left. The summit block of the high point on the ridge (call it "Young's Peak?) is a moderately exposed, fun 4th class climb. I wandered down through the Meadow of Dingley Creek, encountering blue birds, boulder gardens, grasshoppers and the fine aroma of penny royal. Saw not a soul. Splendid day.

Ragged peak and Peak 11255  Sucess!

After ascending Ragged Peak we climbed the ridge between Ragged and Peak 11255. Very enjoyable class 3 climbing. If you stay on the very top of the ridge there are a few class 4, easy class 5 moves. All can be bypassed by staying low on the south side. The high point between Ragged and Peak 11255 is a nice little class 4 climb.

Nice scramble with snow  Sucess!

Pleasant hike / scramble from Lembert Dome trailhead. Several inches of mostly well-consolidated snow above 9500' remained from the Columbus Day storm. Scrambled the SW ridge from the saddle.

South face  Sucess!

A very nice and easy approach, yet, the view from the south side is not at all impressive compared to the view of Ragged from the Young Lakes. The panorama from top is wonderful.

Climb the other peak  Sucess!

I climbed Ragged Peak over the long, flat west ridge, departing the Young Lakes trail just at the base of the ridge. I found the west ridge scrambling enjoyable, perhaps more interesting than the sand hike below it. After descending to the saddle above Young Lakes, almost as an afterthought, I ascended the north ridge of neighboring peak (11255?). This was one of the most spectacular stretches of sustained, exposed, class 3 ridge climbing I have ever seen. You can stay on the very apex of the ridge for the entire route with only a couple modest class 4-5 problems. If you're going to hike in for Ragged, don't miss this superior ridge scramble.
