Solo?What difference does it make if you are solo or day-hiking? Do you normally rope up for AG?! Nice shot but I didn't find Red Banks to be dicey at all this past May.....

Re: Solo?I agree that it does not matter if you solo or not. There is always enough people on the AG anyway. When we were there in early July of 2001 (very little snow that year) it was extremely icey though. I still think it's the best part and the most fun of the entire climb.

Re:Re:Solo?There are not "always enough people." My second time going up Mt. Shasta, I did a solo trip in May 1997 based on that assumption. There was only one other person on the mountain that day. He was in front of me and I met him coming down Misery Hill as I was going up. I didn't see another person on the mountain that day including my trip back down. I would definitely recommend trying to find another person to go with you for an ascent of Mt. Shasta. It's much safer that way.
