Redcloud Peak from the Silver...

Redcloud Peak from the Silver Creek Basin at dusk. This is my favorite photo of Redcloud. The immense rockglacier in the center is seldom noticed by those dashing for the summit. This was my view from camp when I spent 4 days in the area south of Lake City in August of 2001. Jon Bradford

Great Shot

Of a mountain that's hard to flatter. Silver Crek basin is a pretty place.

Re: Great Shot

Aaron,

Thank you for the compliment on my Redcloud photo. You are right about it being hard to flatter... I have photos of it from several angles and nothing compares to that one photo. I want to go back to the Silver Creek Basin to climb the two interesting 13ers to the west of Redcloud along the ridgline (I forget there elevations but they intrigue me) one is a wird little wedge visable from most of the hike up Silver Creek and the other is a series of pinacles. Do you know anythin about these mountains?

Re: Great Shot

Jon-Nope. I do not. To the east are two 13ers I hope get named Mount Blaurock and Ervin Peak. These proposed names are in honor of two of Colorado's pioneering climbers. The proposal is hung up in red tape currently. Roach covers them pretty well in his 13er book. It would be cool if SP had these mountains before anyone else on the net (hint hint).

Re: Great Shot

Aaron,

I just noticed an existing photo that depicts the mountains I had asked about. In this Photo the 13,665 ft summit and the "wedge" to its right were the objects of my concern. I do have better photos myself. Perhaps I will upload them for your inspection.

Great shot!

While climbing Redcloud yesterday, I made a conscious effort to look for this angle of the peak due to this picture! I was also interested in the 13ers, particularly the wedge. I noticed a really good trail leading over to it from the ridge at 13,000 feet. From there it looked like a class 3 or 4 route was conceivable.

Re: Great shot!

Thank you for the compliment. If you climb those unnamed 13ers please post them! The look fun.

Cheers,

Jon

Re: Great shot!

I'd love too, but I doubt I get out there again soon. I should be back sometime in the next couple of years as we were unable to summit Handies due to snow conditions and I really would like to get Handies some day, but living in Oklahoma makes it pretty hard to get out there very often. I should be going out to Colorado 2 more times this year, but I don't think I'll be able to.

Re: Great shot!

Hey, I put in a couple more pictures that have the wedge that you were interested in in them. You can see them in the more recent Redcloud pictures.

Re: Great shot!

Jon, I was able to go back to Sunshine, Redcloud, and Handies last week, and summited the wedge. I'll try to add a page for it sometime this week. It was a great climb, and the summit was unforgetable.

Re: Great shot!

Marmot,

Thanks for the feedback on the Redcloud Wedge... I take it from the enthusiasm of your post that it was a worthwhile mountain. I should very much like to get back down there... I look forward to seeing your photos and or page on the mountain.

Re: Great shot!

As of right now, my pictures are pretending quite well that they have disappeared from my camera, so there might not be a wedge or Whitecross page coming after all. I'm going to try one more thing tonight, but I'm going to be quite angered if I just lost 50 pictures...
