Peter McGann pushing the route toward Camp II on Denali East Buttress. He turned around to photograph Rick Meinig. Rick is belaying from his stance on top of a serac they have just passed. You can see Camp I below on the edge of the buttress. The team was flown into the Sheldon Amphitheater by Cliff Hudson, landing on the snowfield near the top of the picture in front of Mt Barille, about 15 miles away. Rick is belaying with the red glacier rope. The yellow rope is one of our five 600' 3/8" water-ski tow ropes used to fix lines between camps. Once the lines were in place they facilitated ferrying supplies to the next camp, clipping into them with Jumar ascenders.
