Crescent Moon Couloir  Sucess!

Climbed the Crescent Moon Couloir in soft conditions. The crux was the downclimb off the summit to the northwest on approximately five hundred feet of extremely rotton rock.

Great view from the top.

Re: West Ridge

I was wondering if any of the people my wife and I saw up on the mountains were SPers. We only hiked to just shy of Winnemucca Lake. It was a bit tiring for her since she doesn't hike much. We didn't use the snow shoes.

Crescent Moon Couloir  Sucess!

A nice "Cinco de Mayo" morning climb & ski! Left the parking lot at Carson Pass about 7:30 a.m., and skinned up to the base of the couloir in about an hour. Strapped on the crampons and axes, lashed the skis to the pack and headed up. The snow was good frozen nieve for most of the climb until the last 25 ft, which had softened and made it a little tricky exiting the couloir. An incredibly sunny windless day, and I was lucky to enjoy the summit all to my self. Great climb and ski down, definitely worth doing again and again!

Crescent Moon Couloir  Sucess!

I left the trailhead a little before 8 am and topped out of the couloir a little after 10. Snow instability was a bit of concern and horizontal fracture lines in the couloir itself kept me going pretty fast. Snow condition decent but not yet perfect. Weather was nice although the views from the east summit were a little cloudy. Descended west ridge and glissaded down the lower slopes. Used snowshoes on the return but could have done without. This was the first climb I've done since I broke my ankle in Feb. An awesome day.

West Ridge  Sucess!

Powder snow was a major pain with snow shoes. Interesting ice formation on summit ridge. The notch between the summits was insanely windy, not too bad on the rest of the ridge.

Round Top: West Ridge  Sucess!

This trip was for Denali preparation. Pulled 70+ pound sleds up to ~9200', just north of the saddle. Weather changed over night and we got to spend a day digging out the tents every hour and battling 2+ feet of snow with 30-80 mph winds. Woke the next day to a sunny sky accompanied by a successful summit filled with the boom of the Kirkwood avalanche cannon!

I climbed this one a few times when I was a kid, with my grandparents. We always had perfect solitude back then.

Great hike with awesome views up top. A bit of a butt-kicker in terms of endurance but a great workout. Bouldering required up top, a bit dicey.

I climbed this solo the first time, then with my husband the second time. As usual, lots 'o loose rock but a fabulous view from the summit!

Skied from Carson Pass to the saddle below the west ridge. Climbed the ridge and traversed over to the east summit. A truly alpine experience with all the fresh snow, high wind and icy temperature.

Nice hike up the west ridge to the western summit. Slight haze in the air. Great views of Summit City Canyon and areas south.

Light from setting sun on Round Top was awesome on the descent. Hiking/running on section of trail between Carson Pass and Winnemucca Lake in the setting sun is always a glorious experience.

Total time to hike from Carson Pass to top and back: 2 hrs 50 min. Great way to start the weekend.

Some snow but firm in the morning. Reached the top around noon and spent an hour taking in the sights. On the downclimb, boot skied about 800 vertical feet down the large patches of snow. I'm going to bring my son and daughter next time.

Jim ("the Schillermon") Schiller left this world a sadder place on December 3, 2004. Eight of us were present to share our memories and scatter his ashes in a place he loved. We'll miss you brother, your spirit and music live on.

Recovery climb - ankle works ok, although hurts somewhat. Climbing steep snow was easier than scrambling on the rock on the ridge...

Climbed with Andre and Marta. Ideal snow conditions, no ice encountered in right hand chute. Exit onto west summit while steep was not too difficult. Winds raged on top, crawled across summit to gain west ridge descent. Very windy but otherwise a beautiful day in the mountains with good friends.

Me my girlfriend and our dog(Ginger) snowshoed up the North Face to the saddle between Round Top and the Sisters. I then threw on my crampons and grabed my ice axe and went the rest of the way to the Summit. It was a beautiful day, all sun and very little wind. The snow was very wind blown with sections of ice.

Nice climb for me and, my girlfriend, and our dog(Ginger). I was really shocked at how many people where in the Carson Pass area. I felt like I was in an amusement park. I will have to come back in the winter and try the Crescent Moon Couloir. Not so many people.
