"Sage Creek Peak"

We had hoped to climb this peak, but we found Sage Creek to be dry, so we hiked all the way out to the car on day 2. The peak is harder than it looks, according to those who have climbed it.

Where?

I'm poring over maps of DNM, and there's a peak between Sage Creek and Jones Hole that would probably look like this - but it's labeled "Hardscrabble Peak." Is this SW of Sage Creek (downstream on the Green)? That peak (also unnamed) would also look like this but the trail seems to go farther away from it.

Re: Where?

This one is between Island Park and Sage Creek. It is labeled 6917 on the map. I still haven't gotten back to climb it.

It's a nice looking peak.

Re: Where?

Got it, thanks. I'll let you know if we try it.

Not fairly easy

We did not find the ascent of what you call "Sage Creek Peak" aka 6917 to be "fairly easy". There was nothing technically difficult about it though, just a lot of nasty bushwhacking and rough terrain to get to the north ridge. After that point, it was indeed fairly easy. If I were to do it again though, I think I could do a much better job, knowing a particular section to avoid. In getting from 6917 to Hardscrabble Mountain there was for sure some difficult terrain on the descent to Sage Creek and a very thick 200' or so bushwhack out of the creek on the other side. After that point, Hardscrabble Mountain was fairly easy.

Re: Not fairly easy

Good to know. I haven't climbed it, but didn't think it looked too bad. Looks can be deceiving. I edited the photo.

Are you adding a page to the peaks?

Re: Not fairly easy

I'm thinking about it. Also, I tried and failed on 6917 last November when I attempted the south ridge. I made it to the the ridge but didn't like my route at all as a lot of it was a thin layer of gravelly stuff on slabs. Once on the ridge I headed toward the peak and after making it past a few obstacles, turned around when I hit some very unpleasant looking slabs covered with rime ice.
