4 peak day up from Millard Canyon: Mt. Lowe, Mt. Markham, Mt. Disappointment, and San Gabriel Peak. Recently opened after the Station Fire.
With a good friend to celebrate his graduation.
It was awesome the time I went with a buddy up to the top of this peak at night. The view of the lights of the valley is incredible. The LA basin looks amazing at night, its easy to forget what a *!#%hole it really is down there.
Hiked with my Mom and my cousin Justine. Great views from atop of San Gabriel Peak. 3/4 of the hike was in snow, to make it even more exciting!
Nice trail starting just passed Red Box. Fun hike with sweet views from the top. Did Disappointment on the way back.
One of five peaks in the area I hiked with my brother-in-law. These were the first of many peaks we climbed together.
Due to some warm Santa Anas and clear skies, I could clearly see 5 Channel Islands (including Catalina). Could also see San Clemente, Santa Barbara, San Nicolas, and Santa Cruz. Anacapa must have been visible as well but not easy to distinguish from Santa Cruz. It was nearly a full moon, so just after the sunset I watched the moon rise. Definitely didn't need a flashlight on the way down.
Hiked this one from the Sam Merrill trail head on Lake Ave. Started hitting snow at about 4000' and it got serious at Markum saddle. Lots of daylight burned by breaking trail through upwards of 2' snow drifts to the top of San Gabriel. Did Disappointment and Lowe before descending down by sunset.
part of combo with Mt Lowe & Mt Markham from Redbox
Don't remember too much about this one..
This was one of my first hikes after moving to LA.
Walked up San Gabriel Peak and Mt. Disappointment with my wife and both kids (9 and 8 years old) by new San Gabriel Peak trail. Returned to Red Box via Fireroad.
Climbed this one first, then dissapointment, then went over and did lowe. That's it. Great peak, great view.
Have hiked up about 3 times, along with Disappointment and Markham, starting from Millard Canyon or the Sam Merrill Trail.
Once from Eaton Saddle and once from Disappointment trailhead combined with the rest of the peaks in the area.
My wife and I (with our dog - badger) hit Mt. Lowe, San Gabriel Peak and Mt. Dissappointment today. Great hike from Eaton Saddle. The upper slopes were snow covered still, but you could hike with a light jacket. There were a couple of sketchy sections along the trail were the snow was really compacted and icy. Trekking poles helped. Great views...Baldy was all snowy.
Hiked to the top after we did Mt. Markham and it was cloudy, cold and it was trying to rain. Fun hike though and it was nice to get out there and do some peaks I've never done before.
Hit Disapointment and San Gabriel today, with my daugter on my back. We both signned the log in zip lock bags (won't survive the winter well). The best view I had ever seen, you could see the ocean clearly, Catalina and the other islands as well. Amazing.
My 25th HPS Peak.
Good views from the summit, although I could hardly name a single peak of the dozens from the HPS List that are no doubt visible. Pleasant jog down the trail before heading off to do the Iron-Roundtop-Granite-Rabbit loop in the evening.
