Santa Fe Baldy
Worth the effort! Amazing 360 degree views from the summit, on a sunny late August day. We could see all the way to Colorado to the north, past the Jemez range to Cerro Pedernal to the west, beyond Sandia Peak to the south, and across the lush Pecos Wilderness to the east. Lake Katherine is directly below the summit. Marmots and chipmunks abound on the rocky crest.

first MTZ hike of vacation
Four hours to the top and three and a half to return on the Winsor trail in windy but otherwise fine weather. Should have picked a shorter and/or lower hike for my first day out west though. The altitude kicked my ass and I was dragging a bit on the way back.

Via Winsor Trail (254)
Started a little after 8am on Saturday. The hike had about 2-3” of snow in places and a little bit of ice but I didn’t even need to get my micro spikes out. The last mile section to the top is tiring but the views are awesome! I saw a bunch of big horn sheep right before the summit. Ended up being along day at 15 miles in just under 6 hours.

Pleasant Day
I slept at the trailhead, and began hiking at 6:30 a.m. Trail the whole way. Beautiful day, and I beat the thunderstorms.

Summit from Ski Area TH
Pretty easy aside from the long hike given the high elevation by NM standards. Doesn't get strenuous until about a mile before the summit, and even then the trail is easy to follow. Wanted to bag Penitente, Lake, and Deception as well (I had already done Lake and Deception), but clouds started rolling in. Of course, because I decided not to hike, it didn't rain for another 6 hours, but such is life.

Nice training. Beautiful views.
Did this as training for a Mt. Whitney dayhike. Hit the trail by 6am and didn't really see others until the summit. On the way back passed by perhaps a hundred hikers on a busy Saturday. Nice trail and views. Mountain had been on my to-do list for awhile.

My First Bonk
For some reason awoke at 4:30 AM. I started my hike at 6:15 and summited and was partly back down before some early rain and thunder. On way back I was extremely tired and nauseous, resting after each half mile, finishng at 3 PM. Maybe I should not have done a 12K mountain 48 hours after flying in from Chicago.

Great 1st Climb
Great first climb for me and my wife. We decided to try and get into hiking more when we vacation and this was a great experience. We didn't quite bring enough water but we made it back alive =) Hike can really be decided into 3 separate parts Forest-Alpine Forest- and then bald ridge.
Great climb. Second year going to the Pecos, camping at Lake Katherine. This hike and campsite are by far my favorite of all I have done so far. We climbed SF Baldy then followed the ridge to the grassy slope and found a faint trail down to Katherine. Not as scary as it looks!

Views & Cows
Started up the trail at 6:15am. Made it to the summit at 9:15am. Ran into a herd of cows on the trail along the way. I had to play cowboy and herd them off so I could continue on. Spent a half hour on top. From the top I could see Lake Katherine, Penitente Peak, Lake Peak, East Pecos Baldy, Pecos Baldy, the Truchas Peaks, and Cerro Chimayoso. The most difficult part of the trail was the ridge from the saddle. The rest was relatively level and pretty quick. The return trip took me 2 hours and 45 minutes to get back to the car. By 1 I was enjoying a vanilla malt in Santa Fe...
Left the Santa Fe Ski parking lot at 7:45, summited at 11:15. Beautiful approach and nothing too strenuous until leaving the tree line. Impressive peak with great views in all directions, including a great one of the Truchas. Met some nice people along the way and after a half hour on top made it back to the parking lot by 2:45.
Hiked up via Deception Peak, Lake Peak, Penitente Peak, Puerto Nambe. Beautiful day with good views of the Truchas Peaks and the Pecos. My biggest vertical gain day--4600 feet.

Windsor Snow
6/18/16 - hiked to the summit in 2:20 and continued down one of the chutes to Lake Katherine.
Snowshoed to the summit in good weather. The trail was packed for the first 3.5 miles and then things were soft. Nice views up to Colorado!
Did this as a day hike from the Winsor trail head in Pecos valley. Followed the east ridge (directly south of Lake Katherine) to the top, which was really very easy.
