Fun, but not that challenging
I disagree in calling this route Class 3, and I realize that runs afoul of Gerry Roach's call. I came out from sea level, spent the night, and climbed this route from Evans to Bierstadt and back the next day, and though there were a few arguably Class 3 spots, I was disappointed not to find some real scrambling. The only decent scrambling I found was in getting from one side of the ridge to the other.
Bottom line: If you're newer to this game, don't let the descriptions scare you. If you're not, don't get your hopes up.

First scramble
This was my first real scramble, all I know is that I completed this route in 2005, I remember it being fun but very tedious.

Bierstadt to Evans via the Sawtooth
Started at Guanella Pass, waded though the famous Scott Gomer willows before the boardwalk was put in, summited Bierstadt and then did the Sawtooth to get to Evans. Headed back to the trailhead without going back over the Sawtooth. Got to the car just as the skies let loose with buckets of rain.

Bierstadt/Sawtooth/Evans
Bierstadt/Sawtooth/Evans then bushwacked down the gully back to Guanella pass. Ran into a herd of mountain goats and just missed getting caught in a crazy T-storm. Good times.
Absolutely loved the scrambling between the two peaks but was told about a route down from the middle of the sawtooth...was nothing but a rockslide and my friend (his first 14ers) and I thank God we are still alive after that adventure. Nevertheless, would do the sawtooth again in a heartbeat!

Evans and Bierstadt
Success!!! We left around 4:30 AM. Summitted Bierstadt around 6:45. The Sawtooth wasn't as difficult as expected, but was spectacular nonetheless. Summited Evans around 9 I think. We took a roundabout way to bascamp (down the river between Evans and Spaulding; wouldn't recommend it). It was scenic, but definitely not the quickest route. We spent a couple hours navigating the rivers and bushes in the river valley. I would definitely do this route again. The views from Evans, Bierstadt, and the river valley were absolutely incredible. (Once my camera connection works, I'll post a few) Very memorable route!
