Scrambled the north arete
A nice solo, but harder than the advertised grade in my opinion.
Free solo in approach shoes
Freeway class 4 then west face 5.2 to the summit
Easy warm up for the 1st Flatiron. Solo in sneakers.
Linkup part of 3, 2, 1. We soloed Freeway to Baker's Way then tagged the summit via West Ridge on the way down. Too warm for January.
I enjoyed the mostly easy climbing following no real route in particular on the east face. The snow and ice certainly made even easy moves a bit dicier. We topped off to the right of the Pullman Car at the trail, then worked our way up to the West Ridge to finish up to the summit. Some of the moves were pretty airy, and there's one traverse move with solid hands but skinny feet. Loved the diminutive summit, but didn't stay too long due to the cold!
9/18/2011: West Face lead
7/2/2013: West Face free solo
1/2/09 - Climbed Free For All on a warm winter day.
5/8/11 - SE Arete (led P1 & P3), to Pullman Car South Side (5.6, my lead).
6/3/11 - West Face, my lead.
Interesting route, lots of variety of climbing from low angle slabs to nice featured face climbing, some route finding challenges, and spectacular ridge finish on the Pullman Car. climbed with shanahan96.
been up and down the second flatiron numerous times, including four trips to the true summit from multiple sides. it's a great rock holding fond memories and special experiences!
started on freeway then traversed to dodge block. finished up on top w/ west face! great day!
Climbed the second a few times, I've only been to the actual summit once, by way of the "West Ridge" (it's not really a ridge), but is accessed from the point where the First Flatiron trail tops out in the notch between the First and Second. Some low 5 scrambling leads to an exposed, reachy, but easy move onto the summit block.
