Silently Suffering

A splendid dawn casts reflected pink light on these frozen trees atop Drake Peak in Oregons Warner Range in the dead of winter. I snowshoe backpacked up to the summit with a friend of mine and camped in the midst of Oregons highest mountaintop forest at 8,500 feet. It was a magical frozen fairy tale of beauty! CalebEOC- We started from the Plush cutoff road, which is usually open in winter.

Right on, I'm always looking at ways to hike SE peaks in the winter, had been wondering about this one from the cutoff road. If you have any more pictures from that trip you should post them on the Drake Peak page, I'd love to see them.

superb choice of trees

Love your foreground choice with the tree well. All 4 trees have the same complementary bend. Wonderful softness of light and graphics. Backpacking in winter before a storm lays down fresh powder to locations where one might capture such an image is a major accomplishment of logistics. Am a decades old powder skier but don't get out backpacking to be able to capture images like this because it is such an effort. But yes sunrise light on such places can be magic.
