Interesting piney mtn. Was a bit perplexed by the geology Is this a slate mtn. in a volcanic area or a volcanic mtn in a slate area? I think slate is compressed and cooked shale- I've seen slate on the Chimney Tops in Tennessee(on SP too)

Trying to keep my slate clean!

I didn't see any slate on the mountain so I think it is a misnomer. I am still waiting for inter-library loan delivery of a geology master's thesis on Slate Mtn - I hope it will resolve this issue and give more background on the age of the volcanic event that produced the mtn.
