Trail running to the top
Ran up the classic route from Stary Smokovec to the summit in 1:45; 2:50 roundtrip from my chalet, 9 miles. Beautiful cool day, with some clouds on the top. Perfect for fast hiking/running... So much fun going down, jumping like a mountain goat over the boulders;) Such a beautiful mountain range for trail running, reminds me a little of the Grand Tetons back in the States.

Grosz's Route - January 2011
Finally, we manage to climb Slavkovsky Stit in winter, all along Jamina couloir and north-west face. Nice climb via Grosz route, technically easy, but quite dangerous because of the avalanches risk. Our trip was in good winter conditions and in great weather. Fantastic views from the summit!

Normal way from Ótátrafüred - with success
Normal way from Ótátrafüred/Stary Smokovec. This time with success.
My wife didn't give me "permission" for hike, telling me that we should spend the holiday together. So I left the house in Nagyszalók/Velki Slavkov at 5:30 a.m. I started the hike at 5:45 a.m. I was up on the peak at 7:50 a.m. Back at the car at 9:30 a.m. And seving the fresh rolls for breakfast to my wife at 9:50 in the house...

Normal way from Ótátrafüred
Normal way from Ótátrafüred/Stary Smokovec. My attempt to reach the peak was unbsuccessful because of the storm that developed quickly during the climb and it was too intensive at the subpeak Királyorr/Nos. I decided to give it up and return

Made an attempt in unstable weather conditions. After Slavkovsky nos, a snow storm came in, decreasing visibility in the remaining snow-covered part considerably. We decided to play it safe and turned back. Some people have been on the summit beforehand and probably some others went up later as well, but only for the glory, as the thick clouds must have prevented any view from there on this day.
it was very windy but from the summit great view on the Velka Studena Dolina

Last Peak On My Trip to the Tatras
The "Slavkovsky Stit" is one of the prominent peaks, if you look at the mountains from the slovakian side. I climed the peak in the Summer of 1998.
The weather was actually not very nice and I had to hurry to get down to the valley. It's high mountains after all and the weather is your worst enemy there. Most fatal accidents happens because of shifts in the weather and not because of reckless climbing. Temperatures can drop from 90-100 degrees Fahrenheit down to below 40 within a short period of time (hours).
Although I did not wear the right footwork (sports shoes), did I have a backpack with me, which is not on the picture. The Backpack contained weather proof and long sleeve pants and jacket, a map, some food and a lot of water.
I wore the light foodwork because my feet were all blistered and wound. I could not get into my hicking boots anymore. It was towards the end of the trip and yes, I overdid it a bit, pushing my body over the limit. I was at the German Army at the time (not by choice) and did not care much about the fact that I could have gotten sick.
All I cared about was to get to the top of this mountain before we left. I knew that I would not get the chance again very soon, because I knew at the time already, that I will be leaving Europe soon for the United States.

With still a lot of snow in the higher regions, it was a nice adventure (even if the peak was unfortunately covered by a cloud).
