Southwest Bowl

Southwest Bowl

The southwest bowl of Wynn Mountain. In shadow at right is the southwest ridge. An easy class II route on the opposite side of the ridge affords an uncomplicated ascent. Loose patches of scree can be located in the southwest bowl and are certainly easier to negotiate on the descent. Cracker Lake is in the distance. Nearly 4,000 above and to the left is the summit of Mount Siyeh, fifth tallest peak in Glacier. Allen Mountain, an equally impressive hulk of rock, is on the right skyline. Southwest Ridge

Great shot of the route! Where was it taken from? Also, I think the caption should say 'In shadow at left..' rather than 'at right'. I've been to Cracker Lake but the Skyline experience is on my bucket list.

Re: Southwest Ridge

I cannot take credit for this photo, but as far as I can tell this is just below the summit of Wynn Mountain. This large, loose bowl angles from the summit to the southwest. The southwest ridge route I am referring to is indeed in shadow in the lower right hand portion of the photo.

Re: Southwest Ridge

Thanks - I had to look at the topo again and see what you mean.

Re: Southwest Ridge

Great! If you indeed intend to check out the Skyline some day, start early!
