N Ridge in snow
A great early winter overnight over the Huckleberry Trail. The ridge has a nice open feel in places as though it brushes treeline--more like the New England ranges than anything farther south.

Drove, yuck
Short on time so I drove to the parking lot near the summit and walked the short trail to the tower. I'll have to visit again to hike to the top.

Quick trip
I was in DC for some meetings and wanted to pick up the 3 state highpoints in the area so I did a whilwind tour of WV, PA, and MD.
My family was on vacation in nearby Black Water Falls State Park and decided to climb this mountain. Actually did it in reverse. Since we could not find a hiking trail on the drive up, we started at the top, hiked down and then back up to our car.

Nice trip!
Beautiful park. It was 75F and breezy at the top, probably 95F in the valley. Highly recommend the side trip to Spruce Knob Lake. The dogs had a great time swimming in it!
My dog Spanky and I made it to the top of Spruce Knob on a cold, cloudy, and snowy morning. For a complete trip report pls go to http://50summits.blogspot.com

Winter Wonderland
A recent snow storm made the drive to the top an adventure. There was quite a bit of snow above about 4,000 feet. The short walk to the summit tower was nice with the trees to block the wind. Once at the tower the winds and below freezing temperatures made it feel like the middle of January - not October.

Last day of a weeklong trip. Conference in Cleveland, surprised by the beauty of Ohio. Spruce Knob was 5th state and 25th county HP of the trip. Wonderful views; Mt Porte Crayon, Weiss Knob, Potomac valley and the Alleghany front. What a beautiful country we live in. Now over to my last county at Snowshoe and then the 300+ mile trip home (2100+ miles for the week) May take awhile to do the state HP's (Took me 17 years to do #20), too many places to go.

Drove Up
This was the first of three highpoints for the day (WV, MD, PA). It was a beautiful day! Clear, brisk, and windy. I had the entire summit to myself. Great views! HP #23.
