Alone again  Sucess!

Other than one car descending about midway down the mountain on Briery Gap Road as I drove up, I didn't see anyone else on the mountain. Road conditions worsened as I ascended, and I was happy to park the car at the base of Forest Road 104 and hike the rest of the way. The sun and wind were knocking ice off the Spruce trees so fast that it sounded like a hail storm in some spots. Views from the top were nice, but the drive back down was dreadful until I descended below the snow line. HP38

Windy and Foggy  Sucess!

3rd highpoint of the evening. It was pitch black outside when I made it, but no worries: there were no views to be had anyways because of the fog. And the wind must have been blowing 50+ MPH.

1st highpoint  Sucess!

Did this one for the first time as a 7 year old. It was 15 years until I hit HP #2. I have been back to Spruce Knob twice since my first time and always enjoy the view from the tower.

Winter Wonderland!!  Sucess!

With a couple inches new snow th enite before - the summit was postcard perfect! Cold and forsted over... spent a couple hours hiking the summit trail. Found a neat campsite about 1-1/2 N with stone 'chairs'. Quick lunch... then back tot he top. Beautiful day!

My 3rd Highpoint  Sucess!

Dispersed camped the night before next to Gandy Creek in the Monongahela NF, woke up way too early (3:30am) broke camp and drove to the summit. Turns out the sunrise wasn't until 7:30ish! Lots of time to myself in the dark, but worth it as I got to watch the sunrise on the watchtower all by myself. Fall foliage was still decent, windy, but great view from this obvious highpoint.

Highpoint #2  Sucess!

I was in Fairmont, WV on a business trip, and decided it would be an easy drive-up after work let out, taking advantage of the long daylight hours this time of year.

My car's GPS took me a roundabout route with lots of dirt-gravel driving, but I got there eventually. Took the easier paved route on the way back through Briery Gap and got the extra treat of seeing Seneca Rocks as a bonus.

Awesome trip, beautiful views. The Allegheny Mountains really are pretty, even for a hardened highpointer from California!

HP# 4  Sucess!

My 4th state high point. Long ways to go! I'm sure I'll recall the easy drive up while sucking air at altitude on some of the western high points :)

HP # 24  Sucess!

Did it as a 20 mile round trip backpack. Very fun and great clear summit day. On the way back my friends and I miscalculated how much water we needed and it was a race back to Seneca creek before we got dehydrated.

Date with my husband before we got married!  Sucess!

Forgot to sign this one. Just a no effort walk from the car to the summit. Don't remember the exact date of the trip but I do remember there being a serious drought that year.

HP #10  Sucess!

I stayed the night at Blackwater Falls St Pk and spent some time hiking around that area. Stopped at Seneca Rocks and climbed to the top(the highlight of this 3 state trip). Fall colors are quite spectacular in the West Virginia mountains on the drive to Spruce knob. Great views from the tower, but better views can be found if you hike the trail to the southwest.

Made it alive  Sucess!

Made it on the first day of deer season, and didn't get shot, so that's a success, right? Also visited the tiny church.

HP 34  Sucess!

Drove down from Pittsburgh with Sarah for a trifecta highpoint weekend. We hit Mt Davis and Backbone Mountain on Oct 23rd with fellow SPer xDoogiex. Sarah and I then hit Spruce Knob the following morning. We timed the autumn color change perfectly. Sadly, it was foggy on the 23rd and our visibility was pretty limited. Happily, we woke up the next morning to clear skies and were able to enjoy beautiful views on Spruce Knob.
