Sonora Peak + Stanislaus Peak in one day. still lots of snow between st mary pass and base of Stanislaus Peak.
The ridge is mostly clear of snow. Climbed Sonora first and then stuck to the ridge on my way over to Stanislaus. The small granite outcropping near the base of the summit has a short class 3 section and has some good views of the peak.
Snow snow snow the whole way
Climbed this from along with Sonora on the opening weekend of hunting season in 2003.
Pics and trip report are here.
Needed some time at elevation before Rainier so I spent a couple of nights camping near Sonora Pass and decided for a quick 1/2 dayhike up Stanislaus with a 40 lb. pack. Still a lot of snow to traverse, but the summit cap was clear and had some very nice class 3 scrambling.
Party boy struggled to the summit, toxic and out of breath. Felt much better next day and climbed Mt. Wood above June Lakes. A much bigger climb.
Great views looking south into the Emigrant Wilderness on a beautiful Fall morning.
Started from the St Mary's Pass TH and booked it to the summit in around 1:20. The trail from the pass to the base of the peak is an easy run, then the final climb is loose. Climbed some class 3 loose rock on the SE face, then descended a scree chute down the ridge directly back to the trail. Not great climbing, but a nice enjoyable day when combined with Sonora Pk.
Haze from the fires still hangs in the valleys and air, limiting the view toward Yosemite. Several large snow patches on the trail, flowers aren't out yet. Register needs a pen(just a peanut butter jar).
A leisurely paced effort with my dad - spent about 2.5 hours reaching the top, then enjoyed the views of Lyell, Ritter and Banner, and the warm and nearly windless conditions for about 45 minutes. Just enough spice at the top to keep things interesting for this low-end peakbagger.
Climbed this along with Sonora Peak on a beautiful clear sunny day. The wildflowers along the creek crossings were spectacular!
From St Mary's Pass and Sonora Peak this was a nice day hike with bright yellow wildflower displays around every water source along the way.
My buddy Brad and I climbed Stanislaus Peak as part of a multi-summit warmup for the Palisades. We got a late start (~6:30), but we still able to catch the sun setting from the summit. Nice flowers and streams along the way.
Bright sunshine, not too hot, nice hike to the base of the mountain, steep up to the top, a little scrambling to reach the peak, a great day overall!
From St. Mary's Pass via Sonora Pk. Beautiful wildflower displays.
Day hiked the peak from the Saint Mary's Pass TH near Sonora Pass. Nice hike with little snow, but the peak was a fun hand and feet scramble. Great clear day with views for miles.
Easy day trip, recommend dropping to the trail when coming from Sonora if you're looking for fastest/easiest way.
From Sonora Peak.
Great scramble to the top. Views into the Iceberg Wilderness are impressive.
Last mountain hike and peak of the year in 2002. A fine scramble to the top and a nice big summit area. Chill was in the air - winter was just around the corner.
Walked across the ridge from Sonora topping every bump along the way. Scrambled up the south side and returned on the west side of the Sonora-Stanislaus ridge. There is a cool granite outcropping/cliff near the base of Stanislaus peak. I was the first one to sign the register in 2003.
