Steel Grille

Steel Grille

Leading Steel Grille (5.9) - an OW crack route on the Sunshine Wall. Despite the constrictions, I was happy to have some large gear with me (March 19, 2006).

Nice!

Did you onsight that sucka? Good work. Hard and strenuous for a 5.9 (in my opinion). A very good route.

Re: Nice!

Thanks Martin.
Yeah, I got this one in (after so many disappointing failures that weekend). Fun! I think the taller you are, the easier it is to minimize the OW struggles. I agree - much harder than say Tangled Up..

Way to go!

I top roped that climb last year and it was next on my list to try leading. I think it's a great climb because it has a little of everything. Stemming, hand jams down low, OW. It doesn't really let up.

Re: Way to go!

Thank you very much Michael.
You've done some 10c routes at INDEX. This I'm sure would be a "walk up the stairs" for you :)
Great place on wet/cold PNW winters eh?

Re: Way to go!

Well, don't give me too much credit! The one 10c pitch I led was P3 of Davis-Holland, but I pulled on my thin wire at the crux, so it's probably 10a. Still, it was a super rewarding pitch. You've got to climb that one.
