Steep  Sucess!

Hiked from about 1 mile from the mouth of the canyon and up the east ridge. No trail to be found. Bushwhack the whole way up. Routefinding around the cliff bands was pretty simple. Expect a steep hike 100% off trail.

The summit register area was destroyed. There was a big pvc pipe thing spray painted black that was cracked and had what looked maybe like remnants of some paper and a pencil but it was all a pulpy mess and mostly disintegrated. There was also some remains of a broken glass jar.

Next person to go up there should bring a new register. Mabye something a little more sturdy =).

Stookey Benchmark  Sucess!

Drove up to the parking area described by Dean in his write up on this peak. Very enjoyable cross country hike to the summit. The last 1000 feet or so, had very nice consolidated snow to walk on. The summit PVC pipe is bashed in and the summit registry is completely soaked and destroyed. If anyone reads this and is heading up in the relative future, it sure could use a new log and container.

Beautiful day  Sucess!

I parked at the gate and walked the road. I might have been able to drive farther, but I just got the suspension fixed on my car so I decided to be nice to it. I went to both Stookey and North Stookey (8845) and decended via the ridge north of Big Canyon. The way down was not quite the cake walk I had hoped for as there were 5 small cliff bands to deal with. Other than that it was a nice route.

The smashed register is still there. I couldn't get the lid off. The road leading to the gate does have some ruts, but they were easy to straddle.

Dual Peak  Sucess!

Weather held out long enough for me to climb Stookey and North Stookey. Came back over to Stookey for the descent. Road was very rutted as someone had recently drove on it in the mud. High clearance vehicle is a must. The summit register was smashed (both the PVC tube and glass bottle inside) and the resultant register was completely saturated. Doing the Stookey - North Stookey- Stookey loop ended up being about 3400 feet elevation gain

2nd visit  Sucess!

Ken Jones wanted to do a good p2k with a good workout and this fit the bill. 2100' of elevation gain in a bit over a mile is a fairly decent workout. The road in seems a bit rougher than I remember but I parked at the same spot as before. We had a nice day to enjoy the views from the summit.

Cross Country Route  Sucess!

Followed Dean's route described on the main page. Fun, straight forward hike. It was crappy weather on our drive out there, but once we got to the peak the weather was perfect with blue skies.
