At approximately 3 miles from the Cracker Lake trailhead, a large wooden bridge crosses Canyon Creek. Immediately after the crossing, a faint trail leads up a small drainage on the hiker's left; this is the drainage that is used to access the southwest slope route for Wynn Mountain. The forest in this area is particularly thick, so you're better off negotiating the stream bed as long as the conditions permit. Fluctuating water levels and slippery footing require careful route finding earlier in the summer months.
