Returned with Mountin Girl to bag Tab after turning back last year due to weather. Very cool hike over the saddle to the summit and back.
With "Dude, that must hurt". The forecast almost made me stay home. Glad I did'nt!
Climbed with Shavano via the Blank Gulch trail
Made it over from Shavano via Blank Gulch. Quicker traverse than it looks, since you've just gone about 5,000 vert for Shavano, it may look REALLY FAR AWAY...don't quit! Keep going! It's easy.
Love these doubles!
3/4/14- added on tabeguache after a tiring, time consuming climb of shavano. almost turned back 200' beneath the summit due to avy concerns, but re-adjusted and found a safe passage to the top. really enjoyed this summit! #59/100 winter
4/22/06- re-climbed shavano and the angel snowfield to summit tabeguache. what a fun group!
Nice climb, great views. After Tabegauche, we headed over UN 13712 to Jones Peak. We descended Jones Peak to Shavano Lake which is probably one of the most scenic spots I've been to. Bushwacked through the drainage below the lake until popping out on the CO trail.
When we began the mountains were covered by clouds. We broke out the Shavano saddle to look over a white world pierced only by high mountain peaks. What a sight! By the time we reached the Shavano summit, all the couds had burned off for a great view in all directions.
Hiked ridge from Shavano with Mic and Kalet.
October 20, 2007: From Jones Peak & 13712. En route to Mount Shavano & "Esprit Point". 7:45 roundtrip.
May 29, 2006: From Mount Shavano and en route to "Esprit Point". Climbed with crzyjt.
Quite the workout after summting Shavano 1st. The ridge leading up to Tabeguache's summit is still holding some solid snow and the views were great.
I do not recommend going from Browns Lake. Route finding is difficult; the “route” is mostly missing due to slides that have changed the terrain since it was written in the Roach Guide. The day did produce some good quality suffering.
This was actually an interesting climb after ascending Shavano via the Angel. There was deep and mostly-hard snow most of the way up to Tabeguache's summit, which made for some fun glissading back to the Shavano-Tabeguache saddle.
Perfect day. Awesome hike.
Went on over to Shavano, then descended McCoy Gulch ... interesting route finding on the descent.
Don't remember this one too well. Probably my least memorable 14er hike.
Exceptionally loose and rotten below the ridge. Somewhat frustrating and slow-going. Not fun at all. Things were much better once you attain the ridge. Then it's a simple walk. Not hard or exciting.
There were a few people up there.
3rd 14er in two days!
