Beautiful day! The entire trail was muddier that expected for this time of year because of all the rain we have been getting. Easy grades until you leave the Van Hoevenberg Trail. From that point it is a heard path with some very muddy sections and the usual narrow, branch filled path that can be brutal on your legs in shorts. I would recommend wearing pants. There were some mopderately steep sections but none that lasted very long. The summit was probably the least impressive I have seen to date. There is a small sign at the summit and that's about it. Keep going past the summit and it does open up a bit, but the view of Marcy, Haystack and Saddleback is still broken up by a large number of branchless, dead trees that still manage to fight off the wind.
