Tahquitz Cirque, San Jacinto Mountains

The whole Tahquitz Rock Cirque can be ice climbed in the winter. The North Face of the Rock has several possible routes and the (locally known) North Draw of Tahquitz Peak offers about 2,400' of iced up slabs and gullies ending at the fire lookout of Tahquitz Peak. January 2017 photo:Alois Smrz.

Thanks for your comment. I wish the north side of Tahquitz looked like this every winter. But just a few degrees of warming over the last 20 years is enough to make it sketchy and inconsistent. When it does ice up again, climbing can be quite good...
