100% freaked out  Sucess!

I lead every pitch of this route with my friend Christian Szautner following. My insufficient rack consisted of a set of stoppers, several hexes, and perhaps three cams. I remember leading one pitch midway up of roughly 5.8-9 smeary slab and flaring cracks that my rack could not safely protect. On the last steep face pitch, Christian informed me that he was 100% freaked out and hoping for an easy descent. This was not to be. We made the mistake of bringing only one rope and got left high and dry on the first rappel. I had to swing WAY out to my right under an overhang to set up an anchor, leaving three pieces. Further down on a steep snowfield, Christian went into an uncontrolled glissade and crashed violently, though remarkably without injury, into the talus below. Another day of near misses in the Tetons.
