Texel Group panorama from the Gfallwand summit plateau

The two light grey peaks in the center are Hohe Weiße (3278m) and Lodner (3278m). Much closer, and lower too, is the dark shape of Schwarze Wand (3065m), living up to its name, thanks to the shadow ("Schwarze" is German for "Black"). After Gfallwand (3175m) itself, it's the first summit on the Hühnerjochkamm, a ridge stretching two kilometers to the northeast. Further along the ridge two grassy summits are visible. The last one is Blasiuszeiger (2837m), the easiest one to reach. A steep hiking trail leads to the summit, with the final part of the ascent coming up the slopes on the right. The darker peaks on the left, further away, don't belong to the Texel Group but are part of the main ridge of the Alps. Click here for an annotated version. 16 July 2013.
