The final meters to the Dufourspitze

The final meters to the Dufourspitze

We've come from the Italian side, over the Grenzsattel, and are almost there. Even if the exposure is great, these last steps are easy. The summit of the Dufourspitze (4634m) is right behind Al, who has been leading the climb. Mark is looking ahead. Neither of them seems to be the least bothered by the exposure - it's hundreds of meters down on either side of the ridge. But it's wide enough to be confident, and besides, we're roped up, because the route wasn't quite this easy earlier on. In the distance, dwarfed by the Dufourspitze, are some of the other famous Swizz mountains, such as the Matterhorn (4477m) and Dent Blanche (4357m). And on the left, much further away, is Grand Combin (4314m). 7 July 2013.
