British Broad Peak Expedition 1987

Having survived a 30 hour minibus ride up the Karakorum Highway from Islamabad to Skardu, travelled on by Jeep to the then road head at Dassu - long before the road built onwards as far as Askole.
From Dassu we started the 'original' approach to the Baltoro, on foot all the way through Braldu Gorge, past Askole and crossing snout of the Biafo Glacier, before setting foot on the mighty Baltoro Glacier. 10 days out from Dassu we arrived at Broad Peak Base Camp 4956m 19th June.
Weather was mostly poor and having established camps at 5900m (snow caves), 6450m, 6900m the expedition high point was reached at between 7200-7350m on 25th July. Personal highpoint was 6900m on 20th July.
