The Northwest ridge of North Palisade from the notch below Starlight. If you stay true to the ridge, climbing here is in the 5.7-5.9 range - August 9, 2004

Re: Can you get around?

You can... Definitely on the right side (some loose junk there but looked easier) and maybe even on the left. Although, it would probably still be 5th class either way.

Re: Can you get around?

We brought about 10 self-made slings (1" webbing) and did not leave a single one of them on the route. Apparently, somebody climbed the route recently and refreshed all rappel slings. Whoever you are, thank you for saving us time and money!

Are you planning to do this traverse?

Re: Can you get around?

Good work. My suggestion will be to prepare for a lot of exposed 4th and 5th class solo'ing. A couple of rappels that we had to do enroute were pretty burly (i.e. horizontal rappel/climb between Thunderbolt and Starlight, rappel between Starlight and North Pal involved pushing yourself off the wall and landing on a block detached from it by several feet - scary! :)

If you are really solid on 5th class terrain, you can downclimb all rappels, but I don't think that I am up for it anytime soon.

Re: Can you get around?

We took a full length (200'/60m) rope but if I remember correctly it was only 9.5mm. Pretty light...

One or two rappels (out of six) were close to 100 feet.
