The 'other' Augstenberg

The 'other' Augstenberg

There is an Augstenberg (2365m), located at 47.080°N / 9.6113°E, on the border of Austria and Liechtenstein, only a few km north of where this photo was taken. Then there is this Augstenberg (2541m), located at 47.080°N 47.051 / 9.637°E, on the Swiss-Austrian border. This one is also known as Tschingel. And finally, the highest Augstenberg (3230m) lies not all that much further east in the Silvretta group, location 46.8646°N / 10.2038°E, and also on the Swiss-Austrian border! Seen from high on the normal route of the Naafkopf. 23 June 2012.

Augstenberg in Liechtenstein

The first Augstenberg you are talking about (north of the hut) is entirely in Liechtenstein. The FL/Austria border doesn't meet the ridge until just south of the summit.

Re: Augstenberg in Liechtenstein

I must admit that I found this first Augstenberg confusing.

The big summit cross, which you can see from Malbun, is not on the true summit, that's a few hundred meters higher. I first saw with my own eyes when I hiked over it. Based on my altimeter, I estimated the height difference 6 to 7 meters.

Later I looked it up on Swiss Topo, and, sure enough, the summit cross is on the map, with the elevation given as 2359m, and indeed completely in Liechtenstein.
However, about 250m further south on the ridge, the map shows another highpoint, elevation 2565m, and that one is right on the border with Austria.
