The rotten north wall can be easily reached from the trail up the Tam MacArthur Rim - via Sisters. You simply continue hiking past the rim viewpoint up the obvious ridge to the southwest to the base of the Broken Hand.

I would not hike past the rim viewpoint

I would stop and pet the rim viewpoint because the rim viewpoint is fuzzy and cute. Where I'm from, though, we call rim viewpoints "dogs."
