...but SUICIDE peak??!! God...what's the history of that mountain?

Suicide

Ah, the miners and railroad workers who first settled in Anchorage had vivid imaginations, well lubricated by plenty of whisky! I'm sure most came from flat places. They called a group of 4 slightly rugged looking peaks above one end of the city the "suicide peaks," just because they looked scary, and these two have kept the name. Just behind on the left you can catch a glimpse of the even more ominous "Homicide Peak."

Oh well - as long as those miners and railroad workers didn't invent any "genocide peak" or "mass extinction peak" or "extermination peak", it's still all right...
