White Water's sister - also a beauty, although a bit different of course.

Re: Sister

yes, 2 very long parallels valleys well worth visiting. this was my idea in 2006 when I visited both and slept in Zbojnicka in the middle. The best 2-days trip I could recommend in the whole Tatras keeping on the marked trails !

Or one-day:) That was actually my first hike in Slovakia; BTW Why don't you sign here?

Re: Sister

That's true, everything is possible... I once made a walk in the Pyrenees to a three-thousander in 9h with 2400m of level difference...
But for this slovak loop I wanted to climb Vychodna Vysoka and spend a night in this magic place of Zbojnicka chata... What's more there is the road from Javorina to Wroclaw... Me too, I'm not so young as I used to be :)

Re: Sister

Luckily the mountains don't get old as rapidly as us:-)
Is there anything in the Tatras - apart from a Dorota - that you can't find in the Pyrenees?

Re: Sister

Yes, one big thing: people of my age (let's say my generation) interested in mountains... sad to say but in France only retired people seem interested in it...
Otherwise, speaking landscapes, I could discuss hours about similar regions to Tatras and different ones.. basically I would say that granitic regions with lakes are very similar, and french side also more similar speaking vegetation and lanscapes... 2 areas very similar in particular : the Neouvielle and the Luchon area

Re: Sister

Not only in France, everywhere across Europe, even here. Once I read a report of a traverse across western Austria - two hikers my age were doing the same route they'd covered 20 years back: empty mts, closed huts/chalets, younger visitors hardly leaving their cars. I think it's bad for your generation, and maybe even augurs badly for the future of humankind, but - cheer up Eric!:D - it's good for you, and maybe even for me:)
