The view from Skabrijel

The view from Skabrijel

Skabrijel, its name comes from St. Gabriejel, is itself an unimportant hill east of Gorica/Gorizia. It belongs already to Dinaric Alps, but the frontier To Julian Alps is close. Here it goes by the river Soca. Its horrible fame the hill got in World War I, when there were fierce battles. Because of heavy shelling the whole hill was almost bare - incredible if you look today on its dense woods. From the summit you can enjoy a decent panorama - here we see Sabotin (on the left), Soca canyon and Sveta gora. February 17th, 2007.
