Untitled CommentLyell Canyon and Bubbs Creek have dramatically lowered my expectations for the long slog approaches, so it wasn't quite as bad as I was expecting. It's definitely a more enjoyable approach than either of those. (This doesn't mean I'll be paying the West Walker River canyon a repeat visit, though. I'm glad Tower is the only SPS peak in the area).
I noticed your shortcut on the way up and was quite tempted, but I really wanted to see Tower Lake while I was there. I suspected I might not get back there any time soon. :-)
