Traversing too far on Sargents Traverse

February 15th, 2010 - Thumb rock seen from point 7 in this photo, which luckily was our last wrong turn for the day! Getting back onto the ridge form here would involve climbing on slopes steeper than 60 degrees, with some mixed climbing or cornices to deal with, so this way is definitely NOT the way to go. For convenience, I'm calling this stretch the "Sargents Traverse".
