Overview

Neptune
Water-washed limestone on Neptune.

At the bottom of Trident Gorge in Wadi Shaha a water course provides two long trad pitches on good quality water-washed limestone.

Getting There

Wadi Shaha
Wadi Shaha

From Dubai, drive to Ras Al Khaimah in one hour. Follow sign posts to Wadi Bih (see the UAE Rock Climbing guide book). 2km before the Oman border, turn left at the roundabout into Wadi Shaha on the Jebel Al Jais road. Park 9.45km from the roundabout (1.35km past Cleavage) next to a small side wadi on the left (west) side of the road. The crag cannot be seen from the road. Walk along the wadi for 260m to the climbs.

Routes

Trident Routes
Neptune on the left and Trident on the right.

Neptune 50m VS 5a

Climb the wall in the centre into the water course. Follow the centre of this directly to the abseil chains.

Trident 50m VS 5a

Start as Neptune. Follow cracks on the right side of the water course, briefly joining Neptune, to finish at the abseil chains.

First ascents on 26-27/2/09 by Pete Thompson, Lee Ellison and Paul Walley.

Red Tape

There are no restrictions on climbing in Wadi Shaha.

When to Climb

Temperatures are pleasant from November to March. Mornings are best for climbing at Trident as it faces west and gets the afternoon sun. Temperatures exceed 40 degrees C in the summer and it is too hot for climbing. It rarely rains, but watch out for flash floods in the wadis when it does.

Camping

There are no campsites in the area but you can camp just about anywhere away from habitation.

Why not a route page?

It looks more like a route page to me.

Re: Why not a route page?

Yes it could be, but there are two routes.

Re: Why not a route page?

Well, a couple of weeks ago I created a page about two hills and there have been no complaints. :)

Re: Why not a route page?

Thanks! But like doesn't have to mean 10/10. :)
