My daughter, Emily (12), and youngest son, Derek (5), joined me in a three day "expedition" to climb Mt. Washington via Tuckerman's ravine. This was an exciting adventure for the children. Please see my trip report.
Absolutely beautiful climb up to Mt. Washington. I got a late start so I camped at the Hermit Lake Shelters. I was able to leave my camping gear there and summit early the next day. This trail is a must-do, especially in the fall.
200 times at least
Had a quick visit to the whites on my way to Maine. Pinkham to summit in 1:52. 10 minutes up top, back down in 3:45 car to car.
sunny and 40 with minimal winds... just fantastic
This is one of the first big winter ascent I did, and I will always remember it was much harder than I thought. It didn't help hucking up alpine ski gear, and almost didn't have the legs to ski down.
First time on Washington, very fun.
and a fun hike. Good memory.
But still a great hike. Hiked up Tuckerman Ravine Trail, returned to Pinkham Notch via Nelson Crag/Huntington Ravine Trails.
Did this trail on the way up. Very steep at some parts, and to many people!
Fun. Needed crampons for some icy sections. Wind was kind to us.
Remnants of Hurricane Ike blasting me with 60-80mph winds and gusting over 100. Killed my summit hopes when I got to the ridge, but a great route, and I can't wait to try it again.
Was a really nice route and had great views of the bowl and Lion's head.
I've climbed up to Tucks many times in the winter, great trips all.
did this one in summer. a lot of crowds.
Great trail but pretty crowded (possibly due to the July 4th holiday weekend). Beautiful views along the entire trail.
Beautiful route all the way up. The view from the headwall is great.
The day was gorgeous and the climbing was great for one of my first ice leads. I recommend trying a lead here b/c the step like formations of the flow allow for easy screw placements for someone just starting to lead ice. The alpine setting is the only drawback in case of injury
What a great route up an impressive headwall.
A nice easy ascent up the east side of Washington. Route was climbed during rain storm made for an interesting climb past the shelters.
