A group hike  Sucess!

I was from out of state and was very fortunate to partner up with 9 others to summit this mtn. The pre-dawn ride to the upper TH was unforgettable! It was a fun, successful day. For me though, it went too fast!

Bagged with others.  Sucess!

I did this one on a beautiful summer weekend in conjunction with Wetterhorn, Matterhorn, and Broken Hill, south across the valley from Uncompahgre. I subsequently bushwhacked down a southwards creek gully from Broken Hill back to my car.

Done along with 5 other 14ers during a week long backpacking trip in the San Juans. Hitched to the beginning of the 4wd road and hiked in from there.

Hard earned summit  Sucess!

This is really weird, I climbed this peak EXACTLY 11 months ago, same day following the tracks of the same person (Ken Nolan). --que Twilight Zone music... ;o)

A hard day out under very windy, snowy conditions. Summit was covered in rime and by the time we left, so were we. 18 people attempted this trip (14ers.com) and 11 of us summitted.

Uncompahgre and Wetterhorn  Sucess!

Ascended Unco first. Went up the west face, which was a bit scary when crossing the steep snow fields. Descended the main trail and ran back over to Wetterhorn. Tressa Breindel accompanied me.

Beautifully Abandoned  Sucess!

Camped at the Nellie Creek TH, hiked in the blazing sun passing only two other hikers all day. Beautiful summit views of Wetterhorn and Matterhorn close by, and American Basin in the distance. One of my favorite areas...

Nobody on the Trail... Crystal Clear Skies  Sucess!

If you want to escape the crowds and see aspens blazing yellow, hike Uncompahgre on a weekday in late September. Especially enjoyed throwing large boulders off the cliff from the summit. Awesome.

East Slopes  Sucess!

Climbed the east slopes from the Matterhorn Creek Trailhead. The hike was long but otherwise easy. The weather was perfect. On the summit there was no wind, and one could not see any clouds in any direction as far as one could see.

Went for the combo.  Sucess!

After climbing 6 14ers in back to back fashion in the Buena Vista area I traveled to Lake City to climb the 5 nearby peaks and chose the Uncompahgre/Wetterhorn combo as my first climb there. Starting around 5:45 AM from the Matterhorn lower trailhead I summited Uncompahgre by 10 o`clock and then procceeded to Wetterhorn. The weather kept deteriorating as I went up the ridge and I finally aborted the summit bid at 13,800` due to storms approaching fast, luckily I was off the upper ridge when the sleet storm started, but the vivid lightning was a little scray. Eventually I returned to summit Wetterhorn 3 days later.

Wetterhorn and Uncompahgre in a day  Sucess!

The summit pitch was more fun than I expected. Super fun to combine with Wetterhorn. Started at Matterhorn Creek and finished at Nellie. It took 12 hours to climb them both because we didn't have 4 wheel drive clearance and walked from the lower trail heads. So thankful to Elly's owners for the ride down the last 2 miles of the 4 mile road. (#4)

Best day ever!  Sucess!

This was my first 14er. The weather forecast was sunny and warm. And it was. Started late from the Nellie Creek trailhead, and passed half a dozen others coming down. Very windy on the west face. Had the summit to myself except for a few marmots. Ate dinner in Lake City, then drove to Silverton over Cinnamon Pass at night. It was a great trail, a great adventure, and a day I'll never forget!

Nellie Creek  Sucess!

Meetup.com Fierce Planet hike. We started from the 4WD trailhead. The pace was pretty fast: we started around 6AM and got back to the trailhead before noon. The group got pretty strung out along the trail, but everyone made the summit. It was windy at the top. Pretty easy for a 14er, with awesome scenery. The next day we were going to do Handies Peak from Grizzly Gulch, so a few of us drove through Capitol City and over Engineer and Cinnamon Passes to the trailhead. More great scenery along that drive.

Beautiful  Sucess!

Just beautiful the whole way. I got a couple of nice shots of Wetterhorn.

I did four 14ers in five days. Not too frantic.
