Unofficial guide at Svínafell

As we started hiking at Svínafell, this dog decided to show us the way. It looked real comfortable on the rough terrain, usually getting ahead of us, as if showing us where we should go next. It kept following (or leading) us for the rest of the day, even on the glacier - this is in fact on the lateral moraine and there is ice below these rocks. We set up camp by 9 pm, and the dog laid down to rest as well. Next morning it was gone. I reckoned that was a good thing: most of the day we would be ascending the Svínafellsjökull glacier and I never practiced crevasse rescue for dogs... A few days later, back at Svínafell to pick up our car, I looked around for the dog but didn't see it. If you're ever in the area and see it, say 'woof' for us. 17 May 2017.
